City of Derby Open 24/25 April 2010
Congratulations to Sarah Baird for finishing top of her age group (BAGCAT scoring) at the recent Open Meet at Derby. Sarah achieved 6 personal best times on her way to 2 gold medals, and 1 silver, with the highest points score for 12 year old girls, from a field of 35 swimmers. Sarah was awarded a £25 cash prize for her endeavours.
Lauren Quinn faired well at the same event setting 4 personal best times and finishing a very creditable 5th out of 34 swimmers in the 11 year old age group.
Very well done to both.
Qualifiers for Midland Championships
The following swimmers have achieved (in various events) the extremely challenging qualifying times for entry to the Midland Championships (to be held in Coventry on the weekends of 5-6/June and 12-13/June 2010). Congratulations to Jake Hudd, Esme Wood, Sarah Baird and Becky Quinton.

County Championships
Time to acknowledge the excellent achievements of the 22 swimmers who have achieved this years qualifying times for the County Championships.
Boys = Sam Creak, Jake Hudd, Aaron Lee, Liam Marsh, Harry Palmer, James Prosser, Nathaniel Wood, Lewis Potter, Johan Lai, Ruslans Golubs and Oliver Hynd.
Boys entered a total of 62 events between them.
Girls = Sarah Baird, Sophie Bunker, Neve Fergie, Lauren Hughes, Allyssa Paraguas, Lara Prosser, Lauren Quinn, Rebecca Quinton, Lauren Spalding, Esme Wood, and Jessica Edwards.
Girls entered a total of 98 events between them.

Recognition Due The Active Ashfield Sports Awards were held recently, and though they are far to modest to tell you themselves several of our members gained particular recognition. (It's a bit like the Oscars for local sports.) The following received nominations: Gren Greaves - Coach category Christine Greaves - Service to Sport category Sutton Swimming Club - Club of the Year category Alan Urch - Service to Sport category Sarah Palmer - Volunteer category Sarah Baird - Junior Sports Person category All of whom received nominee certificates, but that's not all....... Christine and Alan won their categories, and received winners certificates. Well done to all our nominees and winners. And its goes on..... Andy Quinn and Glenn Baird have just received certificates confirming them as Level 1 Swimming Judges. More pats on the back, when you see them next.
