Paralympic Appeal 2008
As most of you will know Sam Hynd has qualified for the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing in September. A group called O.A.S.I.S. (Olympians from Ashfield Support In Sport)have set up a fund to support Sam (and other Ashfield olympians) through supporting his family to go to Beijing to provide support for him.
At Sutton Swimming Club we have agreed to help by donating our raffle money from the Sam Hynd gala, by swimming in a sponsored swimming event on 8th July and have also offered a cash donation.
Please help to support us by following the progress on this page.

Good Luck

On Thursday the 16th of November eight Sutton Swimming Club swimmers braved the elements to swim up the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. Despite the intense cold and oxygen starvation, they managed the feat in 52 minutes and 59 seconds raising in the process £1,000 for the BBC's 2006 Children in Need Appeal!
Based upon an original idea conceived by the swimmers themselves, the idea was to swim the equivalent of the hight of the world's highest peak - 29,035ft (8,850m) - in two four swimmer relay teams in a target time of 1hour or less.

Pictured above, from left to right are: Tim Bell, Jake Bingham, Sam Hynd, Oliver Hynd, Gren Greaves (Head Coach), Chris Hibbard (back row), Chris Parnell (front row), Oliver Wilson, Elliott Dudley.
Thanks to the hard work of the swimmers themselves and the generosity of their sponsors a magnificent total of £896.08 was raised through pledges with the club raising the total to a whopping £1,000 for the long running BBC appeal.
The club's committee would like say how proud they are of the swimmers who took part, both for thinking of others less privileged than themselves and for the hard work and determination they put into the event itself; it was a great success and shows how committed the club and its members are to helping others and to generating a friendly, family atmosphere.
~Christmas 2006~

This year, rather than send Christmas cards to one another, it was decided that it would be a great idea to have a "Club Christmas Card", to enable swimmers and their families to pass on their best wishes through just the one card in exchange for making a cash contribution. A total of £68 was raised which it has been agreed, will be pledged to the Concern With Love charity who will use the money to purchase a Goat, a Donkey or some other useful item to help the people of the some of the poorest nations on earth.
